CBD and CBDV are chemically similar compounds. The only difference between them is the number of carbon atoms in their side chain. CBD has a pentyl group, which means it has 5 carbon atoms in its chain, while CBDV has a propyl group, which means it has only 3 carbon atoms.

This small difference in carbon atoms affects the way these compounds interact with the body, from receptor binding strength and absorption, to metabolism. CBD is generally more effective for reducing pain and inflammation, as well as treating seizures and obsessive-compulsive behavior. Additionally, it is more bioavailable in the brain, with roughly 40% more bioavailability.

CBDV, on the other hand, excels in its ability to interact with TRP channels. This property makes it potentially more beneficial for treating disorders that affect these ion channels, such as neuropathic pain, muscular dystrophy, and autism spectrum disorder.

CBD and CBDV have similar chemical structures, with the only difference being the presence of a propyl chain in CBDV. Both have demonstrated anticonvulsant effects in studies. THC is known to produce its effects by interacting with the CB1 and CB2 receptors, resulting in the desired high.

This is not the case with CBDV, which interacts with the capsaicin receptor TRPV1. CBDV has anticonvulsant properties and is used in medicine as a potential treatment for seizures. Additionally, this cannabinoid stimulates the TRPA1 and TRPV2 ion channels, reducing neuronal hyperactivity and epilepsy. CBDV has also been shown to have similar effects to CBD, such as promoting relaxation, aiding muscle recovery, reducing pain and anxiety, and improving sleep quality. CBDV, however, is more suited for conditions like migraines, seizures, neuropathic pain, and other similar diseases.

CBDV is not present in all cannabis plants. It is typically sourced from landrace Indica strains with higher CBD content compared to THC. These plants are commonly found in countries like Pakistan, India, and Mexico. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find pure landrace strains as they are separated from other cannabis plants to avoid crossbreeding and the political and legal environment surrounding marijuana is also affecting the production of CBDV isolate.
